Winters End

By Ian Macks

Snow melts along the sidewalk

Rivers form beneath my feet

The walk up the hill is a bit easier

Yet taxing like it’s always been

The sun gets brighter each day

Hopefully we can say the same for ourselves

My heart never felt as cold

As it did in November and December

In order to avoid be pushed away

I stayed silent

Stitched my mouth shut

With lines cut from

A diamond that’s still in the rough

Each day

The shine gets more refined

We’ll be alright

If we give this time
